EnigmaCorp - Newcastle public relations (PR) and communications

The year that was …

The year that was …

It has been a very big year for the EnigmaCorp team – there’s been new staff, new digs, new clients and plenty of interesting projects and tight deadlines thrown in the mix.

Here are some of the highlights from 2011:

We welcomed Chris Day in February as Senior Communication Manager. Chris moved to Newcastle from Armidale and his background is in copywriting. Chris’ clients include Anglican Diocese of Newcastle, Worley Parsons and the University of Newcastle.

In April, we celebrated the royal wedding with the team from The Royal Newcastle Beach and Mirvac. We ran a radio competition with NXFM that was fit for a king and gave a lucky group of people the chance to watch the royal wedding in style at The Sebel Hotel and also enjoy The Royal Day Spa.

We work with journalists on a daily basis so it was nice to see some of them at the Northern NSW Journalism Awards (The Prodis). The event was held at The Sebel Hotel in Newcastle so the team took the chance to drag out the glad rags and have some fun.

Our resident fashionistas Maryanne and Sarah-Jane continued public relations work for Charlestown Square and had fun in September when pyjama king Peter Alexander came to town. Peter shared stories of starting his business in the family shed and his creative muse – his beloved mum.

In September, Enigma acquired another Newcastle ad agency, Peach. So we played a big game of musical chairs to accommodate our 10 new colleagues (who we refer to affectionately as ‘The Peachies’). The re-shuffle meant that EnigmaCorp got its very own office! We still have some decorating to do but we love our huge TV that’s always tuned to News24 of course and never to Oprah or Bold and the Beautiful.

Brett hit the road in the latter part of the year with the NSW Minerals Council for the World Class Miners campaign.

Alana attended TEDxNewy, an event dedicated to ideas worth spreading. Enigma was a Leadership Partner and you can check out the clips Enigma edited on the TEDx YouTube channel.

Also, in November we held our annual Media Drinks at Newcastle’s newest venue, Surfhouse at Merewether Beach. Journalists and clients attended the soiree and our client Scott Keenan from the NSW Minerals Council was awarded the title of writing the best briefs so we gave him some undies – get it?

Alana worked with client Hunter Development Corporation on some new projects for the Honeysuckle precinct to get the harbourside destination more mobile and social. The Honeysuckle mobile dining site was created in consultation with Enigma Digital and is a great resource for visitors and lists opening hours, menu details and phone and email contacts of all of the restaurants. We also worked with Honeysuckle to create a presence on Twitter to keep followers up to date on the activities happening in the precinct.

Chris and Alana got the chance to use their SEO (Search Engine Optimised) copywriting skills for the Hunter TAFE website project. Re-writing more than 500 courses and information pages in SEO format is no small feat but Hunter TAFE will begin to see more enquiries coming from internet searches as their peak enrolment period begins in the new year.

Visit the new website here and check out the Hunter TAFE TV commercial our Digital and Creative team developed.

We created our very own EnigmaCorp Christmas card this year, which we sent out to all the journalists we’ve worked with in 2011.

Our boss Lisa gave us all the most amazing (and one of the heaviest) Christmas presents – gingerbread houses! They look too good to eat but we’ll try our best over the festive season.

And lastly, our colleague Chris Lancaster in our media buying team gets our award for the most festive office!

Merry Christmas everyone. See you in 2011,

The EnigmaCorp team
